I managed to get a GP appointment within 2 weeks, was then provided with excellent care and also referred for a scan. I got this within 4 or 5 weeks. Had to wait 2-3 weeks for a telephone GP follow-up call to discuss my scan result. It was not my usual GP but he was helpful and understanding and agreed to refer me on to a specialised clinic to provide further help. I have not received my referral appointment yet, however, feel the practice is being thorough with my issue. The pharmacist was very friendly and polite and was happy to explain my blood test results and answer any questions I had. I didn’t feel rushed in any way. The only gripe I do have and its not with this Pharmacist at all but the Practice in general. I had to wait a long time for my results over a month to be advised that I have diabetes. I could have had my medication earlier. My first appointment was cancelled and so had to wait another 2 weeks for the next one. I know the GP’s have a lot on their plate but if things are going to take so long especially if medication is needed why an explanation letter and prescription cannot be issued and then have an appointment in order to speak to someone who can answer any questions. Since the birth of the NHS in 1947 when I was four years old and registered with Doctor Helen Wagstaff and her sister, The Ridgeway Surgery has consistently kept me alive and healthy enough to enjoy my eighty first birthday this October. When I read in the press of the problems and chaos with other surgeries I realise my own privilege of being a `Ridgeway`s patient, and all the more so since I retired and depend on the staff more, from the receptionist to the nurses and doctors, always listening, diagnosing, and proactive in some emergency referrals I needed a few years back.
